Bug ID: 349779
Summary: save issues and message : "Could not save...layer
still processing effects"
Product: krita
Version: unspecified
Platform: MS Windows
OS: MS Windows
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: krita-bugs-***@kde.org
Reporter: ***@yahoo.com

I have been dealing with this issue since the 2.9.4.* version. I think now it
is more frequent with 2.9.5.1.

The issue: At some point during a session I cannot paint. I get no feedback
that something is being processed or any change in the cursor, it seems to come
out of the blue. The interface is working, I can switch tools, switch layer
visibility etc but the brush seems to have...run out of paint.
If I try to save or save as, a message pops up telling me that "Krita cannot
save...a layer could still be processing effects". I rarely use any effects at
all and most of the times it just happens while I am simply painting.
I have tried to leave the program alone for several minutes with no success. If
I choose another tool and try to use it or try to actually do something else,
krita switches to "not responding" and I have to close it.

At some point I suspected it has to do with auto save, switched it off for a
couple of sessions but the problem persisted. It was not so frequent though.

I cannot say if this is directly connected with autosave, but here is my
experience with that one, if it is any help: The newer versions 2.9.5.* seam
to be much more sensitive with autosaving. When I work on a large file I expect
a short freeze every 10-15 minutes whenever the next autosave kicks in. If I
fail to observe that it is autosaving and try to continue painting, Krita
crashes immediately with not so much as a "goodbye"!

Lately I have been working on a large file around 9k with 3-4 layers active and
I expect to have one of the issues mentioned above at least once every 2
sessions.

I'll try to save a log and update this report if I have any news.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
I can't say how the "could not save" issue can be reproduced although it
happens frequently. The autosave crash sinply happens if I ignore the short
freeze and try to continue painting while Krita is saving.

Actual Results:
crash / unusable during that session.

Expected Results:
well...not crash, or at least manage to autosave the image in a backup file or
something.

I 've had this issue in my main machine:
Dell Inspiron
Intel i7 with 12GB RAM, nvidia M650 2GB, Krita is running on a SSD

and also in my secondary machine, which is a cintiq companion 2:
Intel i5, 8 GB RAM, Intel iris graphics card, SSD

i have encountered this issue several times. for me it strangely happens when I
use line tool. this crash is very random for me sometimes it happens sometimes
it doesn't. I will try to reproduce it and add a backtrace possibly.

Did anyone manage to get a backtrace? I just cannot use Krita intensively
enough to reproduce it :-(

using line tool.
